I do like the Guard's Shelter.

This is another good page(s) on Air Raid precautions and types of shelters:

They would all have been somewhat claustrophobic wouldn't they?

I've heard of a number of instances where people refused to use shelters because of their claustrophobia, or fear of being buried alive, with tragic consequences.

A convent near to where I stay, had in its garden a one man air raid shelter, which was tiny. However they converted it to be used by the Nuns as a place for meditation and relaxation!

I saw a similar one at the Overloon museum as well!

I understand a lot of people also refused to use shelters as bombs were only a possibility. Spiders were a certainty

What evil spiders are there in the UK?

Perhaps the spiders from mars Andy. :noidea:

The guard shelter does look a bit tight. If I were the guard I would remove the headwear before entering it. :D

Oondreds of legs. You never seen a British spider? Use their webs as trampolines and come at you at eye height

I was told once that the average household contains 1500 spiders lurking unseen. I didn't sleep for weeks!!!! (and now that I have remembered that, it has probably put paid to tonight!!!!)

very crunchy if I recall. Yes I did wake up part way through. Once you've sat next to a cat thats happily chewing away on a spider bigger than your hand, then you know what crunchy is.

To be optimistic about the several hundred spiders that supposedly living in a household, they keep other nasty creatures away!
