Hi guys and thank for the thoughts. Yeah....quit a good one....snow, howling winds (too much curry the night before !) and spent most of the day getting my sons MX bike ready for his racing yesterday (Sunday). I did spend a few hours trawling through the World Wide Wait getting prices and stuff for my planned trip to the States in Sept for the CAF Airsho...yes it is spelt proper loike !... Having been to Oshkosh a coupla times thought I'd try something a bit different and more in my line of interest...Warbirds. Currently looking at a week in Dallas checking out museums like the Cavanaugh museum etc then down to Midland for the CAF do. And yes, I will be booking a flight in a Warbird...I've done two trips in Fuddy duddy, and one in Pacific Prowler so might see if I can blag a backy in a Mustang...have to really as I didn't get one at the GOML 2007 !. Rightyho...I'm getting moist just thinking about it so I'll sign off and go and look at some more piccies. Catchya later dudes / dudesses.
No worries mate, consider it done !. This link will take you to a short video I took of the startup sequence in 'Pacific Prowler' at the GOML 2007 event that I've posted on another forum. I've got quit a few short vids but havent yet gotten around to converting them for display on the various forums. I apologise for the picture quality cos I had to cut down and convert this 549MB clip to just under 12MB to get over the upload limitations...the sound however is brill !. All I advise is that you crank up the speakers to max to get the full benefit of those two huge radials bursting into life a few inches away from where i was sitting. Without any doubt, theeeee most pleasurable way of going slightly deaf yet invented by man !. Air Show Buzz
Typical cold start for a big radial, John (I couldn't help myself so watched it!). There would have been a lovely amount of smoke too, I imagine. Gary, do you have any of the Round Sounds volumes? I had one, lent it to a mate and never saw it again. That was 10 years ago!
Hi John I was sat about 24" from and in direct line of the prop disc when those babes started to work. The battering of the prop slipstream against the fuselage side and the noise from the unsilenced stacks, makes the Mitchell one of the noisiest 'Planes on the flight line. At Oshkosh in 2004, 'Panchito' was without doubt the noisiest Warbird flying !. Apparently, the reason they sound so good is they have a seperate exhaust tuned for each cylinder, like headers on a high performance car motor !. I will say that, when the dude up front pushes the loud levers to take off power, even with headsets on, you dont tend to talk too much !.....You just sit and grin like an idiot !!!!
