We know when he died. Does anyone know where he was or should have been when he was killed. Posting at death was given as 75sq RAF.

He was the only RAAF death listed in the European theatre for that date.

Those on the 4th all have a grave.

He is listed on Runnymede. Any more info?

I was looking at a grave photo from Overijssel General Cemetery in Belgium where:

I am not saying this is him as he could have been lost, days, weeks or months before and only interred on that date.

    MOORE, CYRIL JAMES

    Sgt L O Lewington

Some have claimed that it was shotdown by Hpt Georg-Hermann Greiner of 11./NJG 1 but this doesn't fit with his claims sheet:

Aces of the Luftwaffe - Georg-Hermann Greiner

As to the Unknown Airman, it couldn't be Moore as he would have been lost on the morning of the 6th Aug. Even if his body did turn up and couldn't be identified it would have taken at least a day or two, because he would have been lost over the water.

The Gardening area off the Frisian Islands was known as - Nectarine 1-2-3.

No direct, indexed mention of the crew in Lambert's Night after Night - New Zealanders in Bomber Command.

The Australian chap I was speaking to who arranged a meeting with relatives of his cousins lost aircrew 60 years on had only one who was washed up and buried whereas the rest are on the Runnymede memorial. His cousin was the one washed up on the shore.

I may have a look at the Runnymede for a few days before and see what I come up with.

There were only three deaths from the 4th and they were all interred.

    Thanks for the info Kyt!

Theoretically it would not be Squadron Leader Young of 106sq as he was an Aussie in the RAF and would have been identified with his uniform however I have read that others were RAF and still wore the darker Aussie uniform.

While Heffernan is on Runnymede, Lockley & Harrison were interred at Reichswald Forest.

His body may never have been found in the wreckage. His casualty file hasn't been digitised so I cannot check
