    Gun Emplacements

There are a few dotted about in Lincolnshire, usually just back from the Coast Line. Next time I visit I will try and get a few photos.

These towers have been around for a long time .. though they're not airfield defences !!

Martello tower - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Jersey in the Channel Islands there are bunkers etc that were used during the war and the German occupation !

I would love to see some of these towers at some point. Really must get out and explore more often

Hardened field defences are totally different to Martello towers, Around the east coast of England, martello Towers are quite common. The same can be said of Pill boxes, which is the original intent of this thread. Various pill boxes can be seen all over the place in East Anglia, usually covering road junctions, Rail bridges etc. Never thought to photo them before, but I will now, and post the results.

Cheers 51H. As I said I posted because of my interest in teh RAF but any pics of other structures are most welcome. From watching Time team earlier this year, it seems many pill boxes etc are going unrecognised and being destroyed or built over

Theres a few around Bristol, a very nice one near a rail bridge but it is on private land.
I also know of a loopholed wall on the outskirts of bristol.

Also a very nice bofors tower in Filton.

Passed a nice pillbox at the entrance to a bridge in Marlborough on Saturday.

    pill box

Finally remembered to take a photo to-day. This pill box is at the entrance to a village called Newton Green, near Sudbury in Suffolk. Its hexagon shape can clearly be seen on Google earth at 52.01' 43-57 N. 0.48' 01.51E

    Thanks for the pictures 51H

Penance, do you know the details of how and why it was destroyed? I hadn't heard anything local so I am assuming there was no campaign to save it.

Kyt, I believe they are preparing for a housing estate, even tho permision has been refused once.
There are two listed hangers there, I wonder how long before they catch fire.
