I was wondering if any one has the book "The Guns of Muschu". I just found out today while doing my family tree that I had a distant cousin who was L/C Spencer Henry Walklate of "Z" Special Unit. He was one of the 8 members
killed on 13 Apr 1945. The story of what happen is in the book I mentioned. I tried to google but found very little about the event.

    Regards
    John

    Hello Kyt,

Thank you for the book website. I have been trying for hours to get into the NAA site without much luck. It allows you to get into the search part but then it does not give you any info for ages. I will try again later. It looks like Spencer Walklate drowned at sea or taken by sharks while attempting to escape with 3 others by floating on logs.

Looking forward to hearing your comments about this book, John. I have seen it many times in the shops but have had other priorities!

One thing that has amazed me so far in the book was the use of submarines by the Japanese to supply their troops by firing torpedo's loaded with supplies onto the beaches. I had never heard of it before.

Something's ringing a bell John, but I think it's fair to say I haven't heard of that either!

I came across this unit when I was searching for a POW taken in the fall of Singapore !

You probably know all this already John ... but just in case !!

Australian Z Force (more correctly called "Z" Special Unit), which was a specially recruited and trained group of saboteurs who operated behind enemy lines. It was a spectacular success overall even though they had some setbacks. It's best known Operation was "Jaywick" during which they entered Singapore Harbour and sank a lot of Japanese shipping under the nose of the enemy.
