We have a program here called History Detectives ..... and they were talking the other night about the NC4 ..... I wish I had been able to learn all this terrific stuff earlier in my life !! :) .... fascinating stuff !! made me want to learn more .... I'd never heard of it before !!

Almost ten years before Charles Lindbergh’s famous solo flight across the Atlantic, the NC-4 was the first aircraft to make the transatlantic journey in May, 1919.

The various attempts of crossing the Atlantic make for fascinating reading and I reckon you could lose yourself in researching them.

One of my favourites is the Oiseau Blanc which is rumoured to have made land fall in the US or Canada. One of my favourite authors, Clive Cussler, has hunted for the wreck in the past.

Thanks Annie, I hadn't seen that particular newspaper, though I have seen others from the time.

I do like the "upside" bit

I can't even imagine what it must have been like to fly that far "open to the elements " !! they just sat in the two seats .... no cover etc .... I can't say it would have been a comfortable experience !! :noidea:

Those men really were heroes !!

Once they started - they just "took off" as it were ! what a difference 20 years makes !
