I thought I had posted this before but can't find it. Anyway, the site is very good for USAAF documents, but this is the wartime publication on the Air Battle of Malta, fully transcribed and all the photos scanned: Air Fronts: Theaters of Operation - MTO - HMSO: The Air Battle of Malta
Don't forget to share any piccies you take, especially if you happen to got to the Aviation museum Have a good holiday
Will do Kyt. I know we have a few museums scheduled in so hope aviation is one of them. Also we will be visiting the underground operations room, looking forward to that.
Keep an eye out for all the old trucks as well. Other than stuff from the 50s, 60s and 70s, you might see some survivors from the war still earning their keep namely Bedfords, Dodges, Leylands and AECs. You never know!
Hello Penance, Welcome to Malta prior to your arrival. As Antipodean Andy said, I can assure you that you will find well kept and mantained Bedfords, Dodges, Leylands and AEC`s. Make sure you visit the Valletta Main Bus Terminus to take photos of our old buses and even ride to various villlages on one of them. Wishing you a memorable holiday on our Islands, Regards, Vincent Borg, Naxxar, Malta.
Hi Vincent, Many thanks for your welcome. The one vehicle i would like to see is an AEC Matador. I think we will be using the buses as we are staying in Sliema but have plans to visit places away from there. We are in Malta for 8 Days with the living history group we belong to, we have a few displays arranged and also hope to fire the 100 ton gun at Fort Rinella. I have been looking forward to this Malta trip for a long time. Andy
If you're itching to see a Matador (quite a few still around in the UK), drop me a PM and I'll forward you the email of a mate who is part of the Malta Historic Vehicle Trust. He'll hook you up with a Mat, so to speak!
Hello Spidge, Thanks for welcoming me to this forum which to be honest I registered by mistake, but the assistance I got from Kyt made me enter this interesting site every day. (Although my dedicated research is WW1 Merchant Navy). Should you or any member on this forum think that I could be of assistance, please do not hesitate to write. Best Regards to you and all members, Vincent Borg. Naxxar, Malta.
Hello Penance, Once you are in Malta the following are a must. The War Rooms (Lascaris Valletta). The National War Museum (Valletta). The Aviation Museum (Ta' Qali). The Malta Historic Vehicle Trust. (As mentioned by Antipodean Andy - Re AEC Matador). Near the Bus Terminus in Valletta there is the CWGC - WW2 Memorial. Regards, Vincent Borg. Naxxar, Malta.
Like Kyt I think I have posted this before however I feel its apt for this thread. Film Star Douglas Fairbanks Jr. did his bit in the Second World War serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He kept a daily account of Operation Bowery when serving on the U.S.S. Wasp that was delivering aircraft to Malta. Display
Hello Vincent, Welcome aboard! Good to see a familiar name from another fourm. I hope you enjoy the site. A lot of knowledgeable folk here and that includes you. Regards Hugh
