Could somebody please tell me if the 9th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry were the only DLI battalion that were Desert Rats - or were there other battalions in North Africa and Sicily also ?

    I'd appreciate any help !

Think the 6th and 8th served for a time in North Africa.

The 6th and 8th, as 51H says, were north Africa, as part of the 151st Infantry Brigade. And the 16th also served in N Africa, and Italy

My Casualty records indicate the the 2nd, 6th, 8th, and 9th formed part of the 8th Army mid to late 1942.

If he was in the DLI AND a Desert Rat (7th Armoured Division) then it would be the 9th.

Annie as Service Records take so long to obtain, perhaps you could try a shortcut by asking the Regimental Museum.
