Framed pencil caricature of military officer, signed Pat Rooney, dated 1955 I forgot the url .... Lot 458: Framed pencil caricature of military officer, signed Pat Rooney, dated 1955 - Featured on Invaluable.com
Though I know the description that we have seen says Squadron Leader, the picture actually has him a Flight Lieutenant in 1947. Notice there is no thin stripe between the two broad ones. And I still don't know who he is
Mostly on e bay. I like the WW2 ones mostly. I am not a purchaser, just interested in them as I have the one my Dad had done.
Here's one of a dog and for sale on this side of the pond! Unfortunatly not WW2! Pencil drawing of dog - signed Pat Rooney - eBay (item 230330259379 end time Mar-16-09 18:06:09 PDT)
Pat Rooney caricatures - a late addition to an old thread My father-in-law (Flt Lt John Leonard [Jack] 'Kitna' Price) was a munitions and supply officer during the war and for several years afterwards. He served at a number of airfields, so I've no idea where he was in 1949 when Pat Rooney sketched the attached image. According to his wife Mary (now aged 94 and living quite independently in Stone, Staffordshire), 'Kitna' was Urdu, Hindi or some such for 'How many/much ?'. Most appropriate, I'm sure, for a supply officer ! I hope he wouldn't mind my borrowing his moniker. Rooney also sketched Mary at the same time but, sadly, the sketch has been misplaced over the years. Shame - apparently she was shown pushing a pram laden with books (she and Jack had seven children and both parents were inveterate bookworms). The sketch also showed Mary, somewhat incongruously, waving a tennis racquet in one hand; for her, tennis was another favoured activity at the time. I hope you find the image to be yet another intriguing addition to the Rooney catalogue. Jack's daughter (my wife) and I have enjoyed looking at the others in this thread. Kitna1
