Hi Annie, Used this for a few RAAF info pieces. Thank you for the links on the US lads. Now only one to go! Cheers Geoff
A great set of photos. Interestingly, this one - Europe & Asia/Pacific No. 1 - makes mention of Australians flying Libs from Iceland but shows a Sunderland and the two squadrons mentioned flew neither! Intriguing. The two good looking young fellows in picture 3 were a Mossie crew with 248 squadron. The last pic in the Europe & Asia/Pacific is Max Shean who at one time commanded this old girl - Historic Naval Ships Visitors Guide - HMS X24! Some excellent references for Spidge's project.
Hi Andy, On going back to the home page of the website, there's quite a coverage of WWII. I was interested that they called the Wewak-Aitape campaign 1944-45, "a forgotten campaign". It seems that Dad not only fought in a forgotten war, but a forgotten campaign as well. Cheers Owen
I spent ages on there .... even though I don't have any Australians ..... it was quite absorbing ! Glad you guys got something from it too !! Poor Dad Owen !!
Hi Annie, Yes, a great site. ....and it wouldn't have worried Dad in the least how these campaigns were labelled. Cheers Owen
Hi Annie, I now have them all thanks to you. Our threads crossed as did our posts. I didn't get to bed last night and was at work again at 6-30 this morning and have not been home that long. Just about to go and cook myself some dinner as it is 2012 hrs Christmas Eve here and my daughters and their boyfriends have gone to the Carols by Candlelight in the city (Melbourne). The USA RAAF headstones are all finished and five more cemeteries bite the dust. Cheers Geoff Annie, Do not know if you have seen what the extent of my project is! This is the old list I have not had time to bring up to date. View attachment 2502 View attachment 2503 The country burials have stayed the same at 65 however I have "found" another 202 Australians who died in the RAF as well as having added the 324 Australians who were killed in the fledgling WW1 AFC/RFC/RNAS/RAF. The number now stands at: Countries: 65 Deaths: 11,361 Cemeteries/ Memorials: 1,087 I will hopefully get out to visit and photograph some more of the lads on Boxing Day who in most cases would not have a visit over Christmas. I will post some next week. By the way, any news on Reginald Kaye Duckworth's photo at Waverley? Cheers Geof
I have heard no more on Cemetery searching .... but will let you know if and when ! ........ My friends sister's son and wife are due a new babe - after much drama over the past many years ..... it hasn't arrived yet so that could by taking up all the time ! but she did go into the cemetery a couple of times already ( her of no interest in cemeteries :becky: ) and hasn't been able to find it yet ... she says theres never anybody around to ask not even a gravedigger ! and of course nobody at the office ! I know she'll get it ... but I'm as impatient as you !! Thanks for showing me your project .... I'm impressed !! :clapping:
