My brother was bemoaning the current financial situation - no doubt in his mind as to where the fault lies - and then I was sent this .......

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance."

    ...... Cicero - 55 BC

Nothing changes does it? Neither the problem nor the rhetoric!!!!

I love the fact that the government bemoans the population running up big credit card bills etc - now, who is it that has borrowed billions, and handed them out willy nilly? And who is it that has been bitten on the arse by the very companies and organisations to whom they leant the money?

Borrowing/lending without due responsibility and regulation is going to screw us, our children and our grandchildren....but the government doesn't care because they only look to the next election.

The consumer borrowing without due care and responsibilty to their own circumstances are more the issue imho, had the gorvernment foreseen the credit crunch and told us "this is whats coming, stop spending" would you have done it?

Companies work on supply and demand, both are provided by the consumer one more than the other, it works both ways, when times are good everyone is happy, when it goes bad everyone blames someone else for it.

Our govt told us to ease off on the spending. When the downturn occurred, they started handing money out from the surplus and told us to spend!

Ours just said spend all the time, then gave money away that we needed. I've come out of uni just as this all started last May, and yet to get a decent job, am currently on the dole and applying for seasonal jobs again. Will see anyway.

More worried about my brother to be honest, his firm has laid off all casual and outside workers, next stage is his lot.
