David, if that had been anyone else posting those jokes, I'd have banned them straightaway for just plain terribleness!!

But we allow a certain degree of lattitude to the elderly...

...there you go, I've decided to be ageist too :D

As for "banning" Xmas because it may offend people of other religions, well that is plain ridiculous. I grew up in a family who made as much fuss about Xmas as Diwali and Baisakhi, and so did all my friends' families. The only offence our parents took was at the long lists of presents that we demanded.

Xmas, like the other festivals, were/are an opportunity for families to get together and enjoy themselves, and Sikhs, Hindues, Muslims, Jews etc see that as important as Christians.

The main problem is that certain groups of "do gooders" are taught about different cultures through information that has been distilled, broken down to its essences and usually rarified. They take that information away, making them believe that now have a proper grasp of the different minorities and try to apply it in the real world. Sadly, what they have is not a true reflection of how different cultures live, how that information is applicable in the real world, nor whether the peoples themselves subscribe to the notions that are often then forced back upon them.

For example, second and third generation people of Indian origins are NOT Indian or English. They are a hybrid of those two cultures, and they negotiate on a daily basis what part of their cultural identity is portrayed to the perople they interact with. Throw their religous beliefs, their sexual orientation, their political beliefs etc etc etc into the brew, and one realises that were are unique in our own small way.

So someone telling us that we maybe offended by some Xmas lights on the high street, or by the fact that their child maybe in the school's nativity play, is utter nonsense.

Britain is a multicultural nation. And that is not a recent thing. Before the peoples of the Indian subcontinent and the West Indies came over, Britain had immigrants from Europe. These immigrants settled in over the generations, and they played as much a part in creating British culture as British culture had on creating them.

I agree Kyt. I think anyone can immirrate to any country they want too,but in fairness to the host nation, the immigrates should follow the host nations relgion and rules and way of life. If not, they should head back home.
I am not racist, any one is welcome in Australia,as long as they don't dictact there way of life on me and other Aussies.

Not so sure about that. There always seems to be a deluge of patriotic? bordering on xenophobic (I initially typed homophobic - definitely a senior moment - they seem to be lasting longer!) email traffic after these stupid events.

Read through his old posts to see what he feeds her too!!!

My Dad always said that the definition of an acceptable joke was one that made you chuckle before it made you groan. I also think that humour allows us to cope with some of the darkest moments in life.

Ah, that's the problem with email chain-letters. Some dipstick will send one out, and next thing one knows it spreads like a virus, which it, infact, is. For example, I have had to counter the tosh about holocaust-teaching being banned, that people have passed on to me. There is absolutely no basis for this but because the virus has spread so wide, it is continualy being quoted on the web. And some people believe that just because something is on the web then it must be true!

The last one reminds me of when my pal and I supported a hooker between us.

Racism is a fairly new word, invented by the left wing to stiffle debate about race!! For example if you mention about too much immigration, the left will call you a racist. The normal conservative Briton will then stop talking. Done, aim achieved!! Thats why this country is now in such a mess. We are too apathetic in this country to do anything about it.

I have to agree. in the furture,i think people would have to ask (can we say this?)I think every country has got Engilsh problems aswell.Every country is multicultral (apart from china).
I have always thought that our decentants had it better, they did not have to watch what they said ,or they could walk down the street with being rape or murdered.
    There's to many crime now.

I sent the one about the Holocaust to Kyt for confirmation when I received it as I could not believe it to be true. Once proved to be a lot of Tosh I sent it back as such.

Seems people who do not usually believe or send on these emails were prepared to believe that this one was true.

Spidge, I have received many similar other emails from other people, usually being just one of many recipients. When I've read them I have usually bounced them back detailing my thoughts on the tosh contained in them. But when you sent me that one you were rightly suspicious of the contents.
