I have been collecting Trench Art for a couple of years. Mainly Royal Engineers stuff, for my great grandfather. And K.O.S.B, Highland Light Infantry, Queens Own Cameron Highlanders and Black Watch, for his four brothers who also died in the Great War.I have all their cap badges, and silks for each regiment. And a Black Watch Hackle. Some shrapnel I found in Ypres. A Princess Mary 1914 Christmas tin, Bullet Dagger with YRPRES on it, R.E Shell Jug (French Shell) A ink pen, post cards, WW1 Helmet, lighter, bullet lighter with R.E Button, R.E Buttons, R.E Match Box Holder x 2 and Repro stuff Tommy would have had. I have started to by WW2 Medals, for my two grandfathers, and I have cap badges too. And will have a look if I can find anything to do with Burma. Christmas is coming so I will have some more Trench Art I hope.
SP, can we have some piccies, pleeaaasssseee. I think you're giving our Kitty a run for her money :becky:
Yes I will take some later or tomorrow. And post them here, hope it's easy to post them. My Five Scottish cap badges are in a Box Frame, on Black Watch Tartan, with a Red Black Watch Hackle. Repro Trench Foot Soap lol Does Kitty collect Trench Art too? It's additive. I really want a Dead Man's Penny, (death plaque) but trying to find on with MUNN on it.
To post, use the "Go Advanced" button below the message box, and then scroll down to "Manage attachments". You may need to resize them as there is a 1Mb limit per picture at the moment. And if you more than 5 pictures then you'll need to post them in seperate messages (5 max per message). If you have any problems let me know. I don't think Kitty has any trench art but she does collect a lot of crap, sorry, some highly desirable items :becky: I'm sure she'll share pictures if we ask nicely.
Okay I'll show you mine, if Kitty shows hers too. If I have problems (knowing me I will) I will send them to you to post. Time to cook kids dinner now.
Kitty, you have been challenged.... No probs, posting should be easy enough but let me know. And:hurt: I want someone to cook me dinner too.
Great, it works. And no need to apologise. WW1 is just as acceptable, especially if it's a member' family.
Stop causing trouble you, Kitty is it safe to come out eep::becky: Ah, don't they do a decent curry in Bristol? Last curry I had was dads 60th, down Kings Road. Rogan Josh for me, or Madras. The photo of my great grandfather Andrew Brown McAulay Munn, he died in France, and is buried in Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres.
Is this your great-grandfather? Name: MUNN, ANDREW Initials: A Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Pioneer Regiment/Service: Royal Engineers Unit Text: 33rd Div. Signal Coy. Age: 21 Date of Death: 16/09/1915 Service No: 49202 Additional information: Son of James and Margaret Munn of Clydebank. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: IX. C. 1. Cemetery: CITE BONJEAN MILITARY CEMETERY, ARMENTIERES RIP
Yes that's him. Thank Kyt The Clydebank Council are erecting a new war memorial in Clydebank, hopefully by 11th Nov. For all the soldiers who died in WW1 & WW2, civilians too I think. My great grandfather was on it, but not his four brothers. I have now added them all on. I would like to go up for the unveiling. But been there already this year, we stayed in Glasgow, but I went to Edinburgh. I found two wills and a letter for two of his brothers, which I copied, very, very sad to read.
Five brothers! One lose is bad but that is terrible. It's good to hear of the new memorial. Now that that generation has nearly all passed there's only memorials and stories of their children/grandchildren to really remind people. Books just don't have the same feel. Thanks for sharing the info with us, SP
The sad thing is apart from my nan, (Andrew Munn's daughter) who never knew her father, only one of the brothers married. So it really was a generation lost He had 3 children,(one died young at work) but and I have met up with his grandson. Which was great. I am very passionate about making sure they are remembered.
Ooh me too, I have just a course at Birkbeck University of London, An Introductions to the Archives. Just finished my essay. I started second course last week, aiming for a Diploma in History. Looking forward to hearing about the Western Australian similarity Andy. One branch of my Scottish Munn's moved to New South Wales in the 1850's They now have Munn's Towers there, and a Munn Street. My cousin is in touch with the descendants there.
Ooooh Im all for sharing pics of my collections. I have a very worn death plaque that we rescued from a dealer. Not sure who its for as it was put away. When I get the laptop sorted and talking to the internet again I'll start posting pics. And trust me Petts, now you have started you'll never be able to stop. Dear god its expensive, you get your trench art off ebay at all? Always lots to be had. And sweetheart brooches, i see lots of RE ones going through
Hi Kitty I am going to start taking pictures at the weekend. I have bought some pieces of eBay, some lovely post cards too. R.E Sweetheart badges, there are lots of them for sale on eBay. I am glad you rescued the Death plaque, not for A.MUNN is it? I bet I will never find his one, probably was melted down. Looking forward to seeing you collection. sgt petts
I really am not sure who it is for. I have to go through a big pile of boxes on top of the wardrobe to find it again. Hopefully the laptop will be talking to the internet by tomorrow as I currently have it going through its 3rd scan today.
