F/O John Roberts (DFC) 416893 463sq buried at Durnbach Cemetery Germany. ROBERTS, JOHN (DFC) Flying Officer 416893 463sq 15/03/1944 23 Coll. grave 4. E. 30-33. This headstone is not RAAF - Any clues why? Error? View attachment 3334
That is very strange. Firstly, he should be in a collective grave because it was not possible to establish his identity from two other crew members (according to his casualty file). And secondly, yes the emblem should be of teh RAAF Have you contacted the CWGC Geoff? His personnel file shows no prior service with any other service except the Australian Militia (which was very common before enlistment)
Looked very strange to me however I thought there could have been a reason which I did not take into account. I have emailed the CWGC and will await their reply. These are the burial details of the rest of the crew. (Forgot them) P/O J.Roberts DFC RAAF KIA Coll. grave 4. E. 30-33. Sgt J.Wilby KIA Coll. grave 4. E. 30-33. P/O P.C.R.BrownKIA Coll. grave 4. Strange how he should have a British Infantry Badge on his headstone. He is not on any of my Liverpool Scottish or Cameron casualty lists.
