'Battle for Australia' Day in September This is from 2008 however the "worrying" time will be celebrated again tomorrow.
I'm not a regular newspaper reader but I have not heard anything about this or any commemoration ceremonies. Should more of an effort be made? Interestingly, a light news-focussed show on Channel 10 last night, The 7PM Project, made a joke of September being "XYZ week, Celebrate ABC month etc etc" - nothing about Battle of Australia Day. While we appreciate the sentiment perhaps more than most Australians (gross general comment there), I can't help feeling the day has already been forgotten. I mean, I have it in my diary!
My daughter Airlie (School teacher) is taking quite a lot of students into Melbourne for the day. I might ask her to write a little on the day and the reaction of the students.
John, I think the first one was last year. There was a bit of hoo-ha about it then but not much since from where I sit. I'll find a thread for you. http://ww2chat.com/forums/news-articles/2870-doubts-over-battle-australia-day.html Good on her!
Quite a large amount of content on the history channel today - Interviews from citizens, soldiers. actual footage by the mile. Still watching it now! Cheers Geoff
Battle for Australia Day Pamphlet This is the paphlet they handed out to all those who attended. My daughter and her students said it was a great day. Part two of the pamphlet on the next post. View attachment 3598 View attachment 3599 View attachment 3600
