Hi All, This may be slightly off topic but I thought I would share it with you. Towards the end of last year I was posting on this forum trying to piece together my father's life. With the help of a few members I have done this, at least probably as much as I will be able to achieve. Not only that but with the help of "Major Tan," an amazing local from Singapore, I managed to get to Pompong Island exactly 67 years, to the minute, after my father was killed there on the 14th Feb 1942. I have written up my father's life and our trip to Pompong Island on my web. Please have a look at it on my web (Stan Pyke's home page), it may help encourage others to look into their family history if they lost somone in the war. Thanks to all who helped me achieve this trip of a lifetime. Stan Pyke
By the way, the click here links on "My Dads page are not working. Let me know when they are okay. Cheers Geoff
It's working now Spidge ! Stan what a wonderful and emotional experience it must have been .... and how lucky you are to have been able to do it ! Thank you for sharing it with us ! .... it's amazing isn't it - the help that strangers give us ? but it's even more amazing for the people who helped you - they'll get a big "kick" out of it too ! ! Annie
Broken links on web Hi Spidge & Annie, Firstly thanks for your interest and posts, yes it was very emotional and exhilerating. Just to be there so close to where my dad died all these years ago and in the water at the exact time the bombing started. I often wonder how many people have visited the island for the same reason as we did. Spidge, if you have any old links to my site they will probably not work as I have changed hosts. I only had 5Mb before and that was too restricting so I moved and am able to ADD info without having to remove other info first. So it will just get bigger and bigger. Thanks again, without the likes of you two (and kyt also) I could not have done it. Stan
