Actually two clues there.... And no, not Halifax or Lancaster....Other side of the channel....And a WW1 aeroplane at that...
Oh dear oh dear oh dear..... Right then...Explanation of a clue... What type of aeroplane did a Ball fly?? (Albert Ball that is!) That will lead you to a town... Doooo keep up...
Huzzah!! A start!! Now then...Link this to something half a mile long and 700 yds wide...and then sort out "steel back" Oh and loose the 17....
I considered Nieuport; not many European towns have WW1 aircraft named after them - Halberstadt, Brandenburg, Pfalz possibly. But a half a mile by 700 yards is almost square - half a mile is 880 yards. So it can't be Newport pier. Newport Pagnell Service Station? Did they have service stations in WW1? This thread seems to be the most popular so far!
OUCH!!!!! Is Nieuport near something sandy??....A beach perhaps??? What happened there??? July 10th 1917 Perhaps you all need to think about my main interests.... Any more clues and it would be the answers I am looking for...
Ok Battle of the Dunes when the Northants were defeated? Or was it the 2nd Batt Kings Royal Rifles? Am struggling here, if we were talking 617 Ops I'd be fine.
No not defeated, just overwhelmed by large numbers of Jerries in a very small area, 700 yds by half a mile...No cover no nothing....
