What does 'Never Again' mean?

It seems to me that a lot of good intentioned peace loving types who hold that idea near and dear to their hearts are also totally unwilling to do the things necessary to make sure it never happens again. They seem to mean that Hitler will never again round up his idea of undesirable people and have them all killed. And, in that he's dead, I suppose that is true. But one hopes that 'Never Again' isn't supposed to be quite that specific.

Like, when you look at Darfur and see the Janjiweed (yes, I know my spelling is atrocious.) if you actually believe in Never Again shouldn't you be in favor of sending in as many troops as necessary to stop the killing? And why in situations where diplomacy has failed miserably would you still want to try even more of it while people die right and left?

We say never again a lot. However, many people have forgotten the lessons we learned in WWII. History will repeat itself if we forget it.

History is bound to repeat itself, it's human nature. Saying "Never Again" doesn't change the fact that in the future there are going to be wars and conflicts. These things will always happen, as long as there are humans on the planet.

There will be wars and conflicts. But there will never again be gas chambers. Hopefully, genocide will not be repeated. At some point, man has to learn to get along with his neighbors.

I don't like to sound like a cynical bastard, but really. We are never going to learn from our mistakes. Just look at history. You can see history repeating itself over and over again... Humans will never change, unless we find a way to artificially modify our behaviour.

But science is always moving forward. We are finding ways to artificially do amazing things. Modifying our behavior is probably in the works.

Never again is just wishful thinking.
War happens over and over with the results almost always ending disasterously.

War happens over and over, but genocide should never happen again. Sane minds should prevail before hundreds of thousands can be wiped out again. Never again can gas chambers be used to wipe out whole races of people. Never again can legalized enslavement take place. War should break out to prevent atrocities like the above mentioned.

Genocide? No thats what I meant by it happens over and over.
Look it shouldn't happen, but it does. And WHEN IT DOES everyone turns a blind eye to it while its happening. Like with Bosnia in the 90s and the Black Libyans last year.
I don't hear anyone harping on the genocide that took place in Libya so there you go. People would rather pay attention to everything else, but what is right going on in front of their noses.
