Well for me in Scotland, I will assume an exchange rate of $2 to the £1 House $600,000 - 3 bedrooms, 2 public rooms, 1 bathroom, small garage and garden Local council taxes $350 every month for garbage collection, water, etc...
We have no equivalent to the council tax. The only tax we have is a "Real Estate Tax" for us maybe $500.00 a year. We are of course out in the sticks, we have no fire service, just a volunteer fire service which is kinda Keystone Cop'ish. No police protection as such, a sheriff's department etc. a lot of people are consequently armed house holders. House insurance is high, about $2400.00 a year on the structures. Electricity is cheap, about $140.00 month.
We are the same for electricity although we pay about $200 per month as we have electricity and gas. House insurance is high right enough, ours is only $800 per year. Mind you we pay near $2 per litre of fuel way over what you guys pay.
Strewth, I really should move out of Bristol. Monthly bills: Rent: $1050 Utilities (gas & Elec) $120ish Council Tax (with 25% single occupier discount) $130 Telephone (+net etc) $80 Water: $50 ......and I survive on bread and water :cry_smile:
I'm staying out of this one (not well endowed Google Earth-wise here at work) but I refuse to believe it's Kyt's house in the pics as there is no evidence of a mountain of books.
For those of you who may find that Google Earth doesn't cover your area in detail try: Flash Earth ...satellite and aerial imagery of the Earth in Flash I just found that using the Microsoft VE option allows one to go down to greater detail in those areas that Google doesn't yet
I was thinking about this, our council tax is $260 a month. Electricity is about $180 a month (No gas) we own our house, but 2 doors up is rented at $1800 a month

If you look carefully, you might be able to see my wife in the nude through the attic window. :becky: The only reason we can live in such a large house is that we half-own it with my mother-in-law - in may 05 we sold both our houses and bought one jointly, with an annex and a loft-conversion. Living with my mother-in-law, has been, shall we say, rather more difficult than I thought. :mad2:
Oh dear we have just been discussing a similar proposition - only thing is I am the mother-in-law!!!!!
Reading through this thread makes me wonder how young people in the U.K. can ever afford to buy a home.
