Dad and I went to the Cenotaph today. It was a lovely service, and Harry Patch was there too It was impossible to get to see him and Henry because of the barriers, and crowds of people. Everyone cheered when the three surviving WW1 vets came out, it was very emotional. Here are some photos I took..........
I watched it on TV and it was very emotional, especially when Henry Allingham went to lay the wreath with the aid of the two RAF officers. He seemed very overcome, which is undertandable. Great pics SP
Some more photo's. It was hard to take pics without heads in the way, I need to wear heels next year :noidea:
This is such a moving description Determined spirit of Henry Allingham, Great War veteran, stirs crowd at Cenotaph - Times Online (clink link for video)
Kyt I just saw it on the ITV news. Unfortunately dad and I were the Big Ben end and the the end they came from. We couldn't see as something was in the way. They all looked like they wanted to sleep, they must have been cold and tired. Henry was very determined, it was very moving.
Thank you for including the Women of WW2 also SP .... I've never seen it in person ... but I really love that memorial ! Annie
Annie that is the first time I have seen the Women of WW2 Memorial, it's a lovely memorial. I should have taken photo's of both sides.
I was at the Toronto old city hall cenotaph on Remembrance day (made stops at a couple memorials on my way): Canada at War - Photos: Remembrance Day 2008 - Toronto
Hi Erik and welcome !! Thank you for the Toronto pictures ... I used to live there a few moons ago and knew the old city hall cenotaph quite well ..... it's always lovely to see how the Canadians are so supportive of their veterans ! Thank you again ! Annie
Hi Erik and welcome. If you look at my Fields of Remembrance post, on page 12, you'll see I took a photo of the Canadian section.
