I just wondered. What year of ww2 are you most interested in?. Edit I am interested in all years of ww2. EDIT2 Yes Cobber It would be better if people would explain why they picked that year.
Warhawk, when asking such questions it is usually good forum etiquette that the questioner leads by giving a reason for the question and a full answer themselves first.
For me it was 1942 when the Aussie militia and AIF fought possibly one of the best long term fighting withdrawals at Kokoda Track, and with some help from USA Engineers defeated the invasion of Milne Bay,. Also USA troops who placed so much pressure on the Japs at Guadacanal, along with the sea batle of Torres straight, and later at Mid way. 1943 was another good one, esp for Aussie as well as some US troops however 1945 had to be the absolute best as it was the year the war ended.
Thanks Antipodean Andy. I try to write a bit of knowledge in the thread reply's as i have seen so many people on other sites, just fire off a simple answer and not explain a damned thing. This can be confusing and screw up a whole thread. I like to place some forms of explanation's with facts when possible.
Hi Cobber. I hope that was not directed at me! Since you have giving me a hint that you hate short one sentences answers, well here i go- 1940-43 to me is the best years cause- Germany was in power 1940 then by 1943 was the very start of there downfall and losing their power. During these years, America was forced to join ww2 by the the Allies enemies; also Russia joined the Allies after the Axis did the dirty, plus Italy joined the Allies cause. Hitler treated Italy with no respect. A lot of famous battles happend in these years. 1940-43 for me are the best years of ww2.
Hello Hedi; Mate NO I was not having a go at you or anyone on this site. I was just answering the sentence that was given to me about "A good explained answer", I certainly would not even think of having ago at someone else for anything but the most offensive posts most especially since I have only just arrived. The persons I was referring too were from other sites where they and their writings screwed up things due to no one knowing just what they meant. Just because I like to go into detail during conversation threads such as this, doesn't mean everyone else has too. Cheers Cbr
Cobber,no problems. I understand you anyways,i too hate short one answers!I just could not think what to write,so i write a one sentence answer.I was not really hurt by you're comment.
Hello, I voted for all the years. Mainly because although there were significant battles and moments throughout the course of the war, I feel that it can only be appreciated (possibly not the right way to put it) in its entirety. It mirrors in a way WWI. The allies (read GB/Commonwealth, remnants of the countries overrun) pushed to the limit. This occurred in Europe/Africa/Pacific. Then when all looked lost the allies managed to regroup (find new allies US/Russia/Italy) and when the big push came the axis folded, albeit fighting all the way. I hope this makes sense. Cheers
Hi there. I agree with you,i also voted - most years of ww2.My views of ww2 are like you'res but you can describe it much better than i can. YEP, you're post does make sence.
Favourite year of 1939-45 Hi All, From previous posts, I had better pad out my reasons for my favouring the latter part of 1945. I was 14, and the thoughts of returning to London, full time, returning to my old school, the end of all the anxious foreboding of loved ones, now returning to their families, the victory parades though London and the general feeling of joy that had returned to the entire nation, the ending of hostilities, was for me my favourite time. Hope that explains my post. Cheers Keith
Best of 1939-45 To add to my post above, may I add that my personal feeling of favouring an end to hostilities as the favourite part of of the war, in no way detracts from my deep interest of all that happened. Cheers Keith
Keith,i had no idea you were born before the war years ,that's great wow! So,that means you went through the London bombings? You must have alot of knowleage about ww2,you problery saw Spitfires and Mosquitos flying over you're head. Must have been an experence for you, watching those great aircraft.I can only imagine what would it be like back then. Cheers
