A Cracker here. Those of you from the US will know what that is, although there don't seem to be very many of us here.
Hello Arf.Enjoy you're stay. Yes true,I notice the same thing, not much Americans here,Americans are welcome to this more British forum. That's what makes this forum special,it's the only forum with less Americans than any other forum.
Welcome aboard, Arf. You and Heidi are of course correct in there not being as many Americans here as some other nationalities. The main thrust of Chat has been to shine a light on the lesser known people and countries of the war so, by definition somewhat, we have focussed on the Empire/Commonwealth contribution. You'll find we haven't neglected the US side of things of course but this is covered in depth by many other forums anyway so our US references often tend to be a bit more obscure. I hope you enjoy it here.
Some of us are transplanted in America Arf !! :mosking: ( I keep wanting to say "Arf a mo !! " ) .... anyways welcome ! Tell us ... are you interested in any particular US regiments ? or the US Air Force ?? Annie
Welcome to the forum Arf. Would be interested in what you mean by Cracker (I hope it isn't what I think it is)
"Cracker", sometimes "white cracker", is a pejorative term for a white person, mainly used in the Southern United States, but in recent decades it has entered common usage throughout North America.
The Cracker State: Along with Florida, Georgia has been called "The Cracker State" in earlier times. This Georgia nickname was a derogatory term that referred to immigrants, called "Crackers," from the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Crackers were considered less than ideal citizens.
Amazing how many definitions there are. Other than food, I've only ever used the word in the form of a 'good time' i.e. have a cracker of a day etc.
