My avatar is, from memory, an Aussie 82 Sqn pilot (maybe it's 86, I can't remember) and the aircraft behind him is a Blenheim. The photo was taken somewhere in North Africa, one of the lesser publicised theatres that fascinates me. The signature is more Blenheims (just realised both pics have Blenheims - unintentional coincidence) but in Burma this time. Awesome photo. I have a soft spot for low level strike work so figured it was an apt pic. The websites are the 454/459 Sqn Assoc, two of the unsung Article XV RAAF Sqns (and a great sqn history website) and the Australian War Memorial.
As an aside, I better update my above comments. Since the pilot avatar, I moved onto a well-known Australian pic of a Beaufighter over the Shrine of Rememberance here in Melbourne. Have been thinking of adding a bit of colour recently so went for Robert Taylor's print Top Dog. Top Dog - The RAAF Edition - AUD$250.00 : Aviation Art, The Art of E-commerce - love the print, might buy it one day.
I've been thinking of changing mine for about a week but Kyt, man of action that he is (action, not INaction :lol, took no prisoners!
Avatars Hi Avateers, My avatar is the full badge of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, where most of my happier memories of military service took place. As the man says "Once a Gunner, always a Gunner" Have no signature yet ! Cheers Keith
Would some of our newer members like to share with us the significance of their avatars and signatures. Cobber appreciate your problems trying to get your Dad's photo up but where does your quote come from?
I've updated my avatar with an Indian AF Hurribomber as found in this magnificent series of watercolours uncovered by Annie: Indian Air Force | RIAF Water Colours by Capt H H Sheldon [www.bharat-rakshak.com]
My avatar is just me,but if i was going for a millartary avatar,i would go for a German soldier or the Mosquito fighter bomber Aircraft.
My Sig is a picture of my father 1RAR with four (4) members of 3RAR, (Old mates), in 1952. Dad is the man on the far right, with hat almost sliding off his head and holding the great WW2 jungle carbine the Owen gun, not much use due to lack of calibre (9mm) in Korea though The avartar is dad at Flinder St Rail Station on his way to Sydney to join 1RAR, he only had a weeks notice as he was with 2RAR at Pucka and was SOS (?) to 1RAR at last minute. others will be of dad with Bren gun, dad with Hootchie mate and weapons and dad in winter 1952/3 while in reserve the Korean country side is in the back ground. Woohoo I just noticed my last attempt at setting up a Avartar worked, you little bluddy ripper
My Avatar is taken from a drawing from my Father's POW log, showing his Blenheim being attacked prior to being shot down 1st July 1941. Nick
Avatar is a picture of my medals and signature is the motto of The Royal Corps of Signals Regards Andy
My Avatar for Anzac Day April 25th. Thought I would change my Avatar and Signature coming up to Anzac Day. This is the colour patch of my fathers battalion.
Old RAF Germany badge, but as on other related forums its likely to change monthly. Sigs are usually you tube links to military things that are relevant to me or anniversary of something military but again change as and when.
