An interesting collection of photos of the RAAF in the SWP. A couple of things - the Wackett bomber is more popularly known as the Woomera which was the name given to her after a few mods. I think the American B-24 is an LB-30 - the rear gunner arrangement, round engine nacelles and what appears to be an RAF-type serial number led me to this conclusion. They look much better in white. :becky: SWP aircraft images
Hi AA, Great photos. The ones taken by the troops always interest me. We don't see the detail of the aircraft, but we know they were out there doing what they were created for. The Wackett? Thank goodness they changed the name. Ha! Cheers GW
Great photos Andy. There must be 1,000's more just sitting in shoe boxes or already dumped at the garbage tip.
Cool photos, I saw a B-24 taking off yesterday from Boeing Field (the Museum of Flight was hosting a B-17, P-51 and the B-24 for Fathers Day). It was massive seeing it coming straight on as it took off no more than 300 ft overhead. The Wackett... are those gunner positions in the wings? or are those hydrolic turrets manned from the fuselage? I would hate to be stuck out on the wing for 6+ hours...
