Why is an Englishman saying "airplanes"? Grr.

I say, it would be fun.

    Spitfire Simulator

    Evening all,

Just to set the record straight and clear my name, when the reporter interviewed me I did not say "airplanes"! In fact I did not say half the suff quoted, not like the press to make something up eh?

I have tried to post a picture of the simulator and I will put some more on if you would like (and this one works).

I will be putting the Me109 bulkheads and longerons together this weekend. This will house the second computer and flying controls.

    Regards

    Niall Paterson (RAF Millom Museum)

Thought that might have been the case, Niall. Bloody nice work, by the way.

Welcome aboard Niall. Look forward to seeing the pics. And quite agree about the press ;)

    Spitfire Simulator

Here are some more pics of the Spitfire simulator at RAF Millom Museum. On top of the monitor is the head tracking device (Track IR4). It works really well when in a dogfight or simply keeping track of the runway in the circuit.

We have a projector and screen for the outside view so we can use the cockpit monitor for the instrument panel. Will post some pics of that when I next take some.

Still need to perspex the sliding canopy and windscreen and the rear armoured head rest panel is being re-done with a leather head rest.

It looks like a lot of fun, Niall. Very clever.

Me 109 to keep Spitfire company

I thought the Spitfire simulator was feeling a bit lonely so I built this. It is hooked up to the Spitfre so you can dogfight and they have their own trailer to travel on. Not an exact replica of any particular Mk. and like the Spitfire prototype, there are a few things we will change on the next model.

Had a go at the simulator at the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor. Six 'cockpits' and, it would appear, the ability to fly a variety of Pacific US and Japanese fighters. Going by the two prop discs on either side of my screen, I was flying a Lightning. Managed to damage two Zeroes in the 15 minutes stick time I had and was told I did a smooth landing. My answer was that I walked away from it so it must have been a good one...couldn't help it. LOL.
