Dear All, I have a Burma Star that's named to an Indian with the ff info: BENGAL S&M GP, R.I.E. What's do they stand for? Having difficulty finding some info from the web. Many thanks in advance. I also have another medal that's the British Defense and it's named. It's named to a person with the numbers before his name BUT nothing after the name. Is this normally named like this? Does it imply that the recpient is military or not? Roy
Thank you all. Appreciate your help. About the other issue: I have with me a British Commonwealth WW2 Defense Medal and it is named to 101008 D.V. ATTERBURY. I also encountered a named WW2 British India Service Medal with the numbers and name only. Why is this so? Aren't they supposed to have a regimental name after their names? I have 2 WW2 1939-45 War Medals (one named to an Australian and one Indian) and they both have their regiments inscribed after their names. Thanks in advance. Roy
Hi Zam. If you are still around, the main reason, but not the only reason, no details of units are impressed is that the award is to an entitled civilian engaged in war work. Cheers Keith DXXXX
