Mate I have read a number of your links to your Dads war records.

I had similar problems when going through my fathers and especially one of my Uncles records. The hand writing of the day is at times very hard to understand.
All i can advise is to allow a number of hours for reading, When reading from the computer enlarge the papers as much as you can, and have a writing book and Biro's then start from page one (1) and slowly go through the entire record. When you come to something you cannot understand, try writing the letters as you see them and remember what is written previous and prior can explain a lot.
Also actually reading the paper work over and over can help as things will start to fall into place.
If you need any help with "army speak" then I am sure heaps of help will be offered.
    Good luck.

OK, It now seems from what I can make out, Dad was definately in the HLI 52nd Lowland division and he said he was in "Charlie" Company. According to his records he left the UK on the 18th October 1944 and disembarked on the 20th of Octoberin NWE (assume Nort West Europe). I think Dad said he landed at Ostend, does this sound correct does anyone know as I am not sure it was Ostend, also does anyone know where the HLI 52 LD went for the remainder of the war ?

Most units have some sort of written history, search for it and you will find.
I'm not sure where in GB records you'll find it, but it should be their somewhere.
    Again good luck.
