I'm looking for some help please. I've been sent a "studio -type" photo of a man in WW2 battle dress. On the sleeve is a Scottish Saltire cross and under that the word Mountain. I think this is the 52nd Lowland Division insignia. Above these, at the shoulder, is a very faded badge which seems to read AOC - anyone have any idea what this might mean?? Sorry I cannot get permission to copy the photo here. Ken
Army Ordnance Corps became Royal in 1918 for their service in the first world war. The attached is the insignia of 52nd (Lowland) Division. They would have been resposible as Armourers/Munitions for the Division.
As Ken Morrison has said the shouder badge is badly faded, maybe the "R" is unreadable. There is an organisation known as the AOC engaged in electronic warfare, but I doubt this would be the answer. Cheers Keith
