Hi, I'm writing a book about the Canadian Servicemen that were stationed in West Sussex England during WW2. Any details that anyone has, I would be most greatfull to receive. I shall be going to Kew but if anyone has copies of War Diary's that would be great. Also any details as to where they were billeted in the area would be very helpful. Thanks.
Rcaf Hi Might be worth writing to the Brighton and Hove newspapers as they may have articles they have written or be able to suggest a book that that they have reviewed.... Does the RCAF have a newspaper like the RAF News that you could perhaps get them to put a letter in or something? Dee
Getting hold of one of the books Airfields of Sussex would be a good start, they are usually pretty detailed. Other than that I would suggest putting letters in papers, contacting local and regional museums to see what they have, and then running with whatever you get from that. Without specific regiments/Sq etc we can't really give you any detailed help and info.

Pebblebeach Don't know if it is still there, see no reason why it shouldn't be. Some years ago, before it became a tourist attraction, I visited Newhaven Fort and there was a brass/copper plaque on one of the walls commemorating the Canadians, I am sure it referred to 'The Canadian Highlanders', who embarked from Newhaven for their attack in France. Been searching for the pre digital photograph I took to no avail, Sorry! Tony
Hi Kitty, Looking for all Canadians that were here Air Force & Naval, the majority was Army as they used the downs and beaches for training plus they were here for the South Coast defence to begin with. Thanks also to 51highland and Tonym.

I'm trying to find out where they were during WW2 in the UK? for my family history! I live in the UK. Any pictures of where they were billeted at Please! Thank You. From Frederick
To know where your uncle was you should be able to get a copy of his service record, which will give details. I will check to see if I have the War diaries for the Calgary Highlanders and get back to you.
