I found this forum while looking for information about 2 family members who died during WWII. I am researching my family tree and i'm looking for information about 2 of my great uncles both served in the Green Howards one in the 6th battalion and the other in the 2nd battalion. I have been able to find out some basic info from the C.W.G.C site but i would love to be able to find out more. If anybody can point me in the right direction i would be eternaly grateful. Graham

The two names in am researching are L/cpl Norman Rose 4697635 of the 6TH Battalion Green Howards who died on the 15th of November 1944 and is buried in the c.w.g.c cemetery Jonkerbos Nijmegen Holland. I did vist the Green Howards museum several years ago and at the time all they could give me was his name rank number and the date of his death The other name is L/CPL Richard Henry Rose 4397926 of the 2nd battalion Green Howards he died on the 18th of June 1943 in Burma he has no known grave. This research started after a family get together and i asked another great uncle about how Norman died and he wouldn't tell me, he said i had to ask another grand uncle. He knew but for his own reasons he wouldn't tell me, he also served in the army and was injured and wore a caliper for the rest of his life. I did find out that Norman had another brother John who also served in the 6th battalion and Norman and John were crossing a bridge in Holland in 1944 and something happend and Norman was killed and John survived.

Thanks for the links i have seen the pictures from the imperial war museum before. My mother only remembers Norman coming to see his sister, my grandmother, early in the war when she was about 2 or 3. I have pictures of Normans grave taken by an uncle in the 1980's. My mother can remember my grandmother having a small cutting from a local paper from 1943 when Richard Rose was killed, when my grandmother died we hoped to find it but it must have been lost over the years.
I'm going to go back to the museum to see if they can shed any new light. I came across the 6th battalion war diaries for June 44 but my anti virus didn't like the web page.
