We see cemeteries with the graves of British and Commonwealth soldiers and German cemeteries .... but is there a list of French cemeteries ?
I can click on 'here' and it leads me to: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/Misc/Transcriptions/WRY/BramleyChurchPlaque.html Roxy
Thanks Roxy ... but what I really meant was ... the cemeteries where the French casualties are laid to rest
Fair Point, Annie. I didn't really look at the site before I posted; I thought that it was Frenchmen! I'll try again! Roxy
Guess what Roxy ?? ... I found one at Verdun !! http://seniortravel.about.com/od/in...t-Photos.--1V/Douaumont-National-Cemetery.htm
There's nothing really (online) that gives a complete listing, but the Ministere des Anciens combattants et Victimes de Guerre produce an Atlas des Necropoles nationales which shows and details the locations of all the French military cemeteries in France. Though I think it's now out of print, I've got a copy, so ...if you need anything from it, just say. (there's also a book called Guide des Cimetieres militaires en France by Catherine Grive-Santini which details many, but not all of them (of all nations) too. This is still in print (and, yes, I've got this one too) and is a very handy reference)
I'll have to get my Frenchmen sorted out ( I have a few of them !! ) and then give you a shout !! Is there a book you don't have ? .... just askin' !!
You could try here I had a quick look and it seemed to work - I used 'Smith' and found the burial place of Pte W Smith, Seaforth Highlanders (and I know that he wasn't French!) Roxy
