Hello all, Really looking forward to hearing from anyone who can help me find out about my grandfather. He served in the 8th battalion of the black watch, we think he was regimental Sergeant major. Name Arthur Harris, from forfar Scotland. And often visited Glamis Castle, so i was told. Hope to hear from you soon. Sandra
Sandra I have been researching 7th Batallion Seaforth Highlanders, my great uncle was missing presumed killed in action on the 11th of April 1918. On that day the Scottish Battalions halted and drove back a significant German attack. The part of the line that was attacked was being held by the 11th Royal Scots, 7th Seaforth Highlanders and 8th Battalion Black Watch, in that order. I have a transcript from the officers notes on that day (all 21 pages) but I am not sure how to attach it to this reply. Google earth is also very handy I have been able to pinpoint the position of the line on that day by cross referencing battle plans and modern images. If you are able to get Google earth put Hollebeke in to the search engine,(make sure you click to show roads) you should be able to see a golf course next to a canal. The line extended from the golf course to Wijtschate the 8th Black Watch were at the Wijtchate end. Regards Doug White
