Any information on the 53rd " Railway Company RE, I would be much appreciated, their role during the great war, their engagements and battles, also any war diaries covering this company? I know that my G/dad J.H Coe was one of the original members of B Battery 271 RFA which went from Romford to Beirut, via France 1914 until transferring to 53rd RE on 6/5/1917, Any help would be gratefully received. I hope this is ok as its my first post. Pongo
Hi Pongo, Welcome to the forum. Have you tried the Royal Engineers museum at Gillingham in Kent. They have a super research room and the staff are very helpful. If you contact them i am sure that they will be able to help you with the history of this unit. They hold the war diary for the following dates 03 Jul 1916 to 28 Mar 1917. Any other war diaries would be held at Kew in London. Hope this helps Sniper
