Thank you for the list good reference . Guess they are not kidding when it is said "Washinngton Slept Here" .
There's an old joke here in this part of the Garden State. Here in Bergen County you can actually drive Washington's retreat route thru NJ. It's known locally as the Washington Slept here..and here..and here. route. Hope all are well. Regards from the Garden State, Steve Basic
Steve, that's funny! But being that I grew up in Ocean County, we missed all that! But where I live now in Bucks County, we have a wonderful B&B on the Delaware called the Black Bass Hotel. It's also a terrific place to go for a Sunday brunch...but I digress! The Black Bass Hotel was around during the Revolution. When Washington was seeking quarters for his men in the winter of 1776 he was turned down because the owners sided with the British. A lot of places can boast that "Washington slept here" but the Black Bass Hotel is probably one of the few that can boast "Washington did NOT sleep here." Linda
Linda What is the address and phone of the Blkack Bass? It might be a good place for proper British officers to stay or have a meal if the reenactment is close by. YMH & OS, Ben God Save the King!! fourthbnra@hotmail.com
:-\ Ummm....I had a typo in the link. That's why it wouldn't work. So sorry about that. I corrected the link, if you want to see the site. And yes, it is a most proper place for a British officer to enjoy a Sunday brunch. ;D The entire village of Lumberville had some problems after last year's flood because it destroyed one of the bridges that leads into town (actually the entire area endured 3 major floods over the course of 18 months :-[ ). The detour they had in place during the bridge repairs bypassed the town so the 3-4 businesses they have took a beating. The restaurant at the Black Bass was closed during the repairs but I do believe they have reopened. But it is a good idea to call ahead of time and here is their number: (215) 297-5770. Here is a map of where it is: map Wear your comfy walking shoes. There's a nice footbridge next door to the Black Bass and you can cross over it to Bull's Island in NJ. Sadly the towpath is still in disrepair from the floods we had. Linda
