Just interested to know, but how are the reenactors getting along this year?

I know the weather is bad in the States this year, as it is here, but how is the season progressing generally? Are attendances up; that kind of thing.

    Best wishes,

I attended my first Rev War re-enactment this year as a re-enactor rather than a photographer. I sat in with the 3rd PA at Monmouth on the first day of the re-enactment, which was Saturday, June 21. Had a blast with those folks. Thankfully, the weather was tolerable. Hot, but tolerable. The only thing that kept going through my mind was that in June of 1778 it was unbearable.

From what I could see, the Battle of Monmouth re-enactment had a terrific turnout. It was KILLING me to not have my camera with me. :D

Didn't get to stay for the battle though, :-[, because I had company coming over that evening and had to head back to PA.

    Thanks Linda,

Will you be making any further sorties this year, or is it pretty limited.

I'm guessing you didn't meet up with 'Uncle Ben' either; what with you both hanging out with those wearing different colour unforms.

As matter of fact, I did wander over to the British camp to see if Uncle Ben was there! ;D

I asked around and it didn't take long to find someone who knew him. He didn't come this year. :-[ The gentleman didn't know why.

Right now, the only time I don my Colonial attire is when I go volunteer at Valley Forge. Eventually I'll find a re-enactor "home", though. ;)

    Thanks again Linda,

Come to think of it, Uncle Ben has been a bit quiet recently. ???

Changing the subject, when I visited Brandywine a couple of years ago, one of the only things missing at the visitor centre was a volunteer re-enactor to give a bit of atmosphere. Having said that, the people there were lovely, and couldn't do enough to help. The countryside was nice, too!

I hope that Ben is all right. :-[ Let's hope there are no health issues involved and that he's just been busy.

I've been to Brandywine once and it was raining so hard that day we did not even venture out of the car. All we did was drive through. It's just a little over an hour from where I live so one of these days I'll have to get out there again. I'm surprised they don't have costumed volunteers there.

    Greetings All
Belle and I visited the mother Country for a month. We sailed over and back on QM2 and spent 18 days in the west of England. Wonderful trip, went from pub to pub. Stayed in two pubs. Drank lots of "Cask Conditioned" Ale. Belle put her paw in the Irish Sea.
I didn't attend Monmouth, not enough gunners. I will try to field a crew for the big event at Red Hook(Gloucester Point) VA 18-19 Oct. This is just across the river from Yorktown, Rte 17.
My health is much better. I have a pig valve and one bypass.

Sounds like the two of you had a wonderful trip!

You took Belle with you on the QM2? I didn't think that cruise ships these days allowed pets -- unless Belle doubles as a service dog for you. ???

Did you get to the Borders region at all so that Belle could "commune" with her ancestors? ;)

A pig valve AND a bypass? YIKES! Glad to hear you've recovered from that ordeal.

    Ben,

You visited and never gave me a shout! :'( Glad you had a good trip though.

I'm actually from the south west; Dorset in fact. Which counties did you visit?

Sent an email about trip but no answer. Sent an unrelated email today about the new Brit super sub. It came back undeliverable. Did you change emails?. I stayed in Bruton for a part of the time. Stayed in a pub(I love being close to the ale). Went to Kidderminster and Pershore visiting friends. Also Wales. Send me an email fourthbnra@hotmail.com and I will tell more.

The reenactment at Gloucester was a great sucess. Good weather, lots of spectators. Really well organized. We had a Royal Marine Half Colonel as honored guest. Except for a couple small ones, the season is over and we will establish winter quarters.
When the schedule for 09 is done, I will publish it here. If anyone wants more info on our reenactment world, email me.
BTW I am always looking for gunners. YMH & OS, Uncle Ben
