December 16th marks the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. In 1773, Colonists disguised as Mohawk Indians
dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. The tea was valued at about $18,000. This marked the beginning of far stricter control of the colonies by England. It was the first step towards the eventual formation of the Continental Congress.

Yes, and this was a huge statement against the English control. I think that this was a pivotal move by the Patriots to remove themselves from English control. $18,000 was a huge amount of money to throw into the harbor and was definitely a defining moment in our history. It said "we're not going to take it anymore" loud and clear.

I love that the modern Tea Party is named after this momentous event in American history.Tea Party members of today are definitely the Sons and Daughters of Liberty of today.

Amen to that catevanne! It's amazing how much tea was thrown in the harbor. That REALLY sent out a strong message. This was probably the biggest moment and it was defining in terms of how we started the war.

So true! I just love to think of how our ancestors fought and won their freedom in this great country of ours....we have to maintain our freedom-it's now under severe attack-I'm thinking of joining today's tea party.

That's a great idea. People seem to get the wrong impression of the current Tea Party from the media bias. The Tea Party is simply a large group of people who want our country to follow the constitution. We want less government intrusion in our lives and less government spending with a balanced budget. That's it. Yet somehow, the media spins it to make us look like hateful war mongers who care only about whites. Simply not true.

I agree- and our media has gotten so out of control-who would ever think it would come to this? This is a big part of the attack on America and our freedoms.

I think a lot of it is people who believe everything they hear without researching the facts. That goes for both sides of the aisle. The media wouldn't even run the Obama wealth redistribution comment because they "couldn't confirm the authenticity" even though the white house had already confirmed it the day before. Like come on people, quit putting the president in a bubble and call him out when it's necessary. I would say the same thing if a republican was in office and the same thing were happening.

You are right-this confusion, etc, is on both sides of the aisle. I truly don't know what to believe anymore....I take it all with a grain of salt and I sift it through my own filters....saving the tidbits that make sense to me. I just want our freedoms to be preserved and for America to thrive and grow. The world needs us!

Well, I certainly don't believe the mainstream media. I try to get the actual facts from other sources. I think this is the worst it's been in any election media bias-wise.

Have you been to the website Counter Punch? I've learned a lot from this site...also check out boiling frogs website.

I have not. I looked at counter punch for a few minutes after I read your post, but I didn't see very much on it. What is Boiling Frogs about?

I still find it funny that the mainstream media refuses to cover certain stories. Why is that? Do they not deem them newsworthy or there a more sinister reason?

Many people think there is a more sinister reason....I'm not sure if there is or not....what I can't stand is so much coverage of pop culture-that is what passes for news today.

I believe that as well. The media has been biased for many years. Nobody can deny that. I think that more people are starting to wake up and see the world around them.

The Boston Tea party start the liberty movement in America. However, I often wonder if things would have been different had they not disguised themselves as Indians. The poor Indians got blamed for everything.

Things were so different in the olden days, it's hard to understand why they did certain things.

I agree. The Native Americans really got blamed for too much. I don't think we should have taken their lands and forced them out. Unfortunately we were quite ignorant back then. We're still pretty ignorant now, but you get my drift.

You think we took their lands because we were ignorant. I think it was plain and simple GREED. If there was oil in Antarctica we would invade there. Let's face it, from the beginning of time, there has never been enough.
