WALLASEA, trawler (545t, 31/7/43) sunk by surface craft torpedo off Mounts Bay, Cornwall, January 6, 1944 Penzance Cemetery contains 71 Second World War burials, 2 are unidentified seaman .... the naval casualties include 22 sailors who lost their lives in an attack by German surface craft off Mount's Bay on 6 January 1944, 17 of them being members of the crew of HM Trawler "Wallasea". Remembered with Honour - Royal Naval Patrol Service Memorial The RNPS Memorial stands in an imposing position on the cliff top in Belle Vue Park, Lowestoft, overlooking the sea and Sparrow's Nest Gardens. It was erected and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The Memorial solely commemorates those members of RNPS who died during 1939-1946 who have no known grave other than the sea and a few others who died on shore but have no known grave. I have recently written a book about the attack on convoy WP457 on 6 January 1944 in which MV Underwood, MV Polperro, SS Solstad and the RNPS Wallasea were sunk by e-boats of 5th Flottilla.
