Hi, My late father served in the 191st H&EY from 1942 and was demobbed in 1947. I have all his letters he sent home to his mother. Apparently he was wounded, somewhere in France on 21st July 1944 and several of his mates were killed. I'm really looking for any information about the regiment and where it went etc. Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hi Martin

My father was in 534 battery and I have just been researching his time in the army. I have some documents that may be of interest. Let me know if you're still looking.

Hi Martin, my Dad served with the 191st, in 532 BHQ battery as a despatch rider/gunner. I know he lost one of his friends, Dennis Bell, whilst in Normandy. I do have info on the regiment and were it went during that time. Which may be of interest. If so please get in touch. LJS (Karen)

Hi Martin, my grandfather (L/Bdr. Herbert Hall) was with the 191st H&EY in the 532nd Bty. Unfortunately he died a number of years ago, but I have some documents & photo's from his time in 191st. Any info you may have would be greatly received as I have been compiling my family history. Find below a number of photo's, a great reference to the 191st time can be found in the book "View from the Bridge" by David A Lamb.

Just looked-up the details you gave for your late father's wounding in France, from the above mentioned book. I've included a couple of scanned pages for your info.

    Hi Spencer

Interesting to hear of your grandfather. I've never seen a copy of "View from the Bridge" by David A Lamb - I keep searching for it! I have got "The Hertfordshire Yeomanry Regiments Royal Artillery" by J.D. Sainsbury, which I think is still in print and is very good. 191st chapter is about 35 pages, and does quote from the Lamb book.

Of the materials I have are:

An unofficial history put together as the regiment disbanded in 1944
War Diaries for the 191st for 1943 and 1944 - highly detailed day by day activity reports from the National Archive

If you are interested in the latter items I can put them on a CD for you if you let me have your address. My email is john.atko@hotmail.co.uk

I also upload a photo of 534 Battery HQ section including my father, Arthur Atkins. I reckon all the 191st Batteries had these photos taken in Aldershot around the same time, don't know if you had one with your grandfather?

    Hope this is of interest.
