No one I know wants to see the USA get into another petty war in the Middle East. But the chopping of peoples heads off over something so silly as religious ideology has got to stop even if we have to kill every last one of them. I mean take a look at the head in my avatar.....would that head look as pretty laying on the ground as is does on my skinny neck? I think not! Makes me wish the Funvax was actually a real thing instead of something made up on the internet. Funvax is a made up vaccine that destroys the part of the brain that creates religious fundamentalism.
I agree. I do not understand why anyone would be so bestial and brutal as to post the beheading of a fellow human being, unless they either intend to scare or enrage their target audience. And with the US as the target audience I can think of three motives: 1. To so frighten and dishearten the American people as to stop any retaliation 2. As a show of determination and warrior machismo. 3. As as false-flag operation to so enrage American decision-makers in re-entering the Iraq-Syrian conflict and place the weight of the US war machine against one's enemy -- ISIS/ISIL/ Islamic State. Who would want that, I wonder? The US has been suckered into this mess before with false flag information. I am wary of committing US force based upon an emotional responce, specially with the limited information the average American.
This is the one I'd put my money on. If they view the administration as puppets on any string that can be bought and/or manipulated, they'll go for the most shocking. And this horrifying evil is just about the most shocking way to accomplish it.
Agreed, but as the American Public is now being ill-informed by the American Main-Stream-Media(MSM). The world press reviewers now rate the MSM as on-par with many African third-world media for content. It is now entertainment, not NEWS. This degradation of the Press even extend to such incidents as the arrest of Journalist and Pres Photographers in Fergason, MO. As the Press is the only civilian occupation mentioned in the US Constitution one would think that every policeman should know that Journalists are a special protected group. Alas, the oligarchs have degraded even this.
Much of the public (stop laughing, I'm still an optimist!) knows that this is happening and can generally find a middle ground where the real news just may be found. I *hope* not many people simply take what they're spoon-fed and consider it the truth. If a news story breaks, I have a little game I play with myself and I "win" 90+% of the time. Before I load up any news source (except where I first heard it) I try to guess what the uber liberal to the point of being comical CNN will be spinning. I know that the conservative Fox does the same the other way, so this isn't a political statement. Somewhere between the two lies what really happened. Even when CNN tries to hide it in the small print, they *are* responsible enough to report the news that isn't favorable to libs... just gotta dig for it sometimes. (Well okay, *that* may have been a teeny tiny political statement, eh, @Interrogator#6 ?)
The beheading story went huge in the mainstream news cycle but it was sad that most people my age and younger were sharing it for it's shock content and as a means to politicize other issues. I don't know if it had the intended effect for ISIS and those who released it but it was very sad to see this man's final moments being publicized on every corner of the globe even if it didn't contain any extreme gore or violence.
Yes... and now it's happened again. I've been very wishy-washy when it comes to having a firm thought on what to do about this. I understand the various views, but these terrorists aren't run-of-the-mill enemies and diplomacy with them... well that's nothing more than a joke. If nothing is done, a profiler would probably tell you that they'll just keep getting worse and worse, maybe even capturing military personnel as well as journalists. They're not going to stop if they perceive the world community as pacifist wimps. They're just not. It's not in their nature. I've heard very convincing arguments from both sides on this... some of them right here at the forum. I usually don't have trouble with forming a political view, but I think it's different this time because it's a classic darned if ya do, darned if ya don't scenario.
I see this blog has a new sponcer: Secure America Now.org. I have done a little research and found only a little real informationi. They claim to be be a neutral organization but they espouce a very conservative line of rhetoric. And I suspect they are an "astroturf" organization, like the Tea-party, professing to have broad grass-root base but are in reality a front for the wealthy oligarchs.
