There is a wonderful article on the Washington Post's web site today about Oscar Marion, a slave owned by General Francis Marion, the famed "Swamp Fox" from South Carolina. The article can be found HERE. Oscar Marion is depicted in a painting that has hung in the Capitol Building since 1899. He was often described in books as 'the faithful Negro servant,' serving his owner well during the war. Thought you all might like to read the article!
It is always interesting to learn about people in our history who have been ignored in the past or given less than proper attention. However, in the article about Oscar, the movie patriot was used as a source. Please, the only thing correct in that movie is "there was a war". All else was gibson's anglophobe propaganda.
