I remember reading about a book (?) about a man who served in the singapore police before wwII, then at out break of war who moved to the uk where he taught un-armed combat and self defence to SOE etc

Can anyone shed any light on the person and or book please!

I did see a very similar character in an episode of Foyles War. Would be fascinating to find out if it was based on a real character. When did you read the book?

    Hi,

I read about him/book years ago in the Mail On Sunday, have tried a trawl thru the web and cant find anything without his name or name of book.

Searching the web I found this site about William Ewart Fairbairn:

    W.E. FAIRBAIRN- THE LEGENDARY INSTRUCTOR

CQB Services ยป W.E. FAIRBAIRN- THE LEGENDARY INSTRUCTOR. By Phil Matthews

and there is a book about his life:

The Legend of W.E. Fairbairn, Gentleman and Warrior: The Shanghai Years: Amazon.co.uk: Peter Robins, Nicholas Tyler, Paul Child: Books

Sorry, I couldn't find better picture. He also wrote the book :

Shooting to Live: Amazon.co.uk: W.E. Fairbairn, E.A. Sykes: Books

Is this what you searching for?
