    Two thoughts:
    1) Was he Jewish - his name sounds as though he could have been - and was that why he was sent to a concentration camp?

    2) So if some Luftwaffe officers were sent on tours of concentration camps, they can't claim they didn't know what was going on. And they only spoke up for fellow aviators, not the other inmates.
    But to be fair, there wouldn't have been a lot else they could do, without actually ending up under arrest or worse.
