This has got absolutely nothing to do with WW2 but I just had to post it as it is a book I shall be starting very soon. I love Stephenson's books because they aren't just a journey into his world but an expedition. My favourite is still Cryptonomicon, but the 2 million word, 2700 page, three-volume Baroque Cycle was also rivetting (if you can allow yourself to be immersed in Newton, Hawkes, physics, C17th money markets, etc etc etc).

Well the latest is out, after a long wait, and it should keep me busy over the winter. This is a great review:

    That is a good review.

I often marvel at how clever some of these authors are. To first of all think of the framework of the idea and then work the substance into it is hard enough but adding mathematics, physics et al is just mind-boggling.

Not sure I'll ever read it as reading it on the train is probably a health hazard in that my seat will fall through the floor and onto the tracks due to the book's weight but I applaud those who stick it out and get immense satisfaction from reading the last words on the last page of what must be a rather large expedition for the brain!

...and they call reading relaxing...pondering quantum physics or belting low over the Med in a Beaufighter is not relaxing...it's exhilirating (the former maybe not so much for me!). LOL.
