Obvious that monkeys don't always learn!!!! Old IT people have always been very concerned that security would be compromised when data was held on desktops (nevermind laptops) rather than mainframes.
How many memory sticks have been "lost " ?? ... it's getting a little scary isn't it ? I don't understand how it can happen so often ! :noidea:
I think that there is a sort of arrogance in downloading any personal information to a stick, floppy or whatever. If any proper work were being done involving personal data then it should have been done in situe. All files containing personal data should be both encrypted and password protected and it should be impossible to transfer data of this kind from the hard disk (i.e. the only traffic should be from server to remote and back). I just don't understand why nobody listened to the legitimate concerns of the IT people which have proven to be well founded.
All countries seem to have this problem. We are forever hearing about peoples private files being dumped in garbage containers. We even had a high ranking army officer leave some inportant items at the airport.
