    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Ross, Andrew played for Scotland

    Internationals: 5 : 1905 W- I- E+ ; 1909 W- I+

    Andrew Ross was born on 15 May 1879, in Edinburgh, the son of Andrew and Frances Isabella Gillon Ross.

    Played as a Forward for: Royal High School, Royal High School Former Pupils

    Profession: Marine Engineer

    Remarks: He was in the Arctic when war was declared.

    War service: 75027, Private, 29th Battalion (British Columbia Regiment), (“Tobin’s Tigers” after the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Seymour Tobin) 69th Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He enlisted on 15 January 1915.

    He was killed in action on 6 April 1916, and is buried in Ridge Wood Military Cemetery, Voormezeele, Heuvelland, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium [Grave I. R. 9.]. His battalion lost 125 men killed in the period 3-6 April.
