This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread. He was killed in action on 2 October 1914 at Bois Bernard.
Secretary of SCUF Rugby 1908 to 1914 Finalist in the championship of France 1911 - 1913 1 Team selection in France My French is not that good !! As fate had filled Rugby, Joe must stop the practice of his sport in 1914. France was to return to war. It is embedded in the 226th Infantry Regiment in the Pas de Calais. On 2 October 1914 in the Bois Bernard, he received the heart in a ball that does not revive. Plated one last time by an unknown enemy, he saw before closing the eyes the scene of Charbonnières du Pas de Calais. They have recalled Wales and its days of glory at St Helens in Swansea? His name is engraved on the monument to the dead of Bayonne.
Heres Joe ... but theres an added bit on the bottom .... whats that do you know ? was there an inquest or something ?
