YouTube - Any Old Iron by Peter Sellers As many of you know I have recently retired from working for a living. That does not mean I have retired from working! I have recently been conducting my own "Time Team" excavation project here in Alabama. I live on a small grass strip airport in Alabama. In 1979, before I lived here, Hurricane Fredrick hit this area and destroyed a number of aircraft at our airport. A couple of these aircraft were left to rot and some 30 years later I decided to cut back the Alabama jungle that had enveloped them and see what was to be found. So after much work with the chain saw, a lot of hard work and some huge bonfires this is what I uncovered, can you tell me what kind of war bird it is that I found in the Alabama jungle?
The last picture is of the fuselage, its not too clear and I have been unable to hack my way through to it so far, perhaps next week!
That's what I've been leaning towards, mate. EDIT: this'll sound nuts but I can't help thinking Ventura/Harpoon. EDIT EDIT: I can't get the cowls to work though. She definitely appears "portly" though.
The propellor appears to be a fixed-pitch type, typical of the late 30's/ early war. There are cowlings from two engines - but unless the dog is very large, which labradors usually aren't, the engines were quite small. My guess would be Beechcraft 18. I'll see if I can find a picture of the undercarriage leg of one - but of course the remains may not be all from one a/c.
I was going down the Beechcraft path as well, AR, based on the two-bladed prop. Even tried the Cessna Bobcat.
This reminds plane reminds me of a Brewster Buffalo ww2 fighter. Anyways David, i do like you're property it's huge and i like you little dog,it's cute.
