    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Wilson, Arthur James played for England

    Internationals: 1: 1910 I+

    Arhur Wilson was born on 29 December 1886, son of Henry Bainbridge and Emily Wilson.

    Played as a Forward for: Glenalmond School, Northern, Camborne, Camborne School of Mines, Camborne Students, Cornwall

    Profession: Mines Manager/coffee planter

    Remarks: Olympic silver medal for Rugby (Great Britain v Australia (3-32) 1908). Mining in West Africa; coffee planter in India.

    War service: 8074, Private, 12th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, 73rd Brigade, 24th Division.

    He was killed in action on 1 July 1917, in Flanders, and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium [Panel 6 and 8].
