    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Heath, Arthur Howard JP MP played for England

    Arthur Heath was born on 29 May 1856, in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire, the son of Robert Heath, MP for Stoke.

    Played as a Fullback for: Clifton College, Oxford University (Blue 1875, 1877-1879.)

    Internationals: 1 : 1876 S+

    Profession: Colliery proprietor/iron master. He was elected as a Conservative Member of Parliament for Hanley 1900-1906, but not re-elected in 1906. Elected for Leek in Staffordshire in January 1910.

    War service: Lieutenant Colonel on staff of Royal Field Artillery; Mentioned in Despatches for valuable services by Secretary of State for War 1917.

    Remarks: Served in the Staffordshire Yeomanry 1906-1909 as Lieutenant Colonel commanding, and Honorary Colonel. Played Cricket.

    He died on 24 April 1930 in London

    Arthur married Alice in 1884 ....... and was buried in Putney Vale cemetery in April 1930 !

    Thanks for that. Not being a cricket fan, I've never delved into that aspect of the men's careers.
