Arthur Laing : Rugby Player

    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Laing, Arthur Douglas (‘Podger’) played for Scotland

    Internationals: 7 : 1914 W- (1c) I- E- ; 1920 F+ W + I+ ; 1921 F-

    Arthur Laing was born in 1892.

    Played as a Prop/lock for: Royal High School, Royal High School Former Pupils, Mother Country

    Profession: Brewer

    War service: He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Scots on 19 November 1915. Captain “A H Laing” (almost certainly the same person) played one game for Mother Country in the King’s Cup in 1919.

    He died on 24 November 1927.
